Fairhaven is an independent production company founded by filmmaker Matthew Galkin in 2018. The company produces documentary films and series for major networks and streaming platforms, with a focus on investigative stories, compelling characters and subjects that have a broad cultural impact. At its core, Fairhaven is interested in nonfiction storytelling that goes beyond the obvious story — films and series that reveal the people, systems and ideas underneath the headlines.

Fairhaven’s current slate includes A KILLER STORY, a three-part HBO documentary series directed and executive produced by Galkin; ONE NIGHT IN IDAHO: THE COLLEGE MURDERS – SEASON 2, the three-part continuation of the smash-hit Amazon series, directed by Galkin and focused on the investigators who led the case; and an upcoming HBO documentary series about the ZIZIANS, the enigmatic group of young technologists whose beliefs about AI and alleged connection to a series of violent crimes drew national attention.

Recent Fairhaven work includes ONE NIGHT IN IDAHO: THE COLLEGE MURDERS, directed by Galkin and Liz Garbus; MURDER IN BIG HORN, the acclaimed Showtime series about Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women co-directed by Galkin and Razelle Benally, which premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival and was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award.

Previous productions include Showtime’s MURDER IN THE BAYOU, the company’s first series and Showtime’s first ever true-crime documentary series; CNBC’s EMPIRES OF NEW YORK, a six-part history of New York City’s transformation in the 1980s; A&E’s CULTURESHOCK; the HBO documentaries KEVORKIAN, I AM AN ANIMAL: THE STORY OF INGRID NEWKIRK AND PETA, and LOUDQUIETLOUD: A FILM ABOUT THE PIXIES.

Before founding Fairhaven, Galkin was a partner at Warrior Poets, where he served as executive producer and showrunner of the IDA Award-winning CNN series INSIDE MAN and produced films including SUPER SIZE ME 2: HOLY CHICKEN!, ONE DIRECTION: THIS IS US, THE DOTTED LINE and COMIC-CON EPISODE IV: A FAN’S HOPE.
